"Unable to ope nthe item \\Mail\G:\Exchsrvr\MDBDATA\23e.stf -skipped." problem when performing backup by Symantec Backup Exec

It generetes "Unable to ope nthe item \\Mail\G:\Exchsrvr\MDBDATA\23e.stf -skipped." exception when performing backup. It seems that it attempt to perform a "flat file" backup of the Exchange database. How can I resolve it? Or simply leave it not to be backed up?

    Hi George,

Do these errors happen on a regular basis or is this just a once off?

These files with the extension .stf that are located in the same directory that the exchange database log files are located, are temp files, which if not deleted by the information store process are deleted when the information store starts up.

I would look into this more if these errors occurred every time you performed a backup, but if it is just a once off, I would not worry too much about it, the files might have been locked/in use at the time and backupExec might not have got enough quiet time on that open file to perform a backup. You can decrease the semaphore timeout period for open files in BackupExec but it is not recommended to reduce time to any less then about 3-4 seconds.

    Regards
