Sad [:(] Removing the last Exchange 5.5 Server Problems

I have just finished a migration of Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003 (SP1) with the addition of the new server into the existing 5.5 site.
I had some help from Microsoft and think some items may have been removed before completing some additional tasks.
Everything is migrated off the 5.5 server but I am unable to remove the last 5.5 server using the steps in the documentation.
When I run the 5.5 admin tool to point to the new server, it fails. "A connection could not be made to the MS Exchange Server computer "this server name"  The MS Exchange Server computer does not respond."  Yet the machine I am running this from IS the new server.

I think the issue is that the ADC connections agreements were removed before using the 5.5 admin tool to connect to the new server and remove the old server from the site.

My question is..... how can I remove the 5.5 server from the site without having the replication/synch happen.
If the 5.5 box had died prior to removing it, is there a way to remove it from the Exchange Site and cleanup AD?

Can I simply re-create the ADC connection agreements to get things talking again.
Will this create duplicate accounts when I add the agreement?

    Are there any other options?

    Thanks,

Re: Removing the last Exchange 5.5 Server Problems

    Hi Pat,

Is the following document the one that you are using?
    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/exchange/guides/Ex2k3DepGuide/c791b28e-78e1-4433-b72a-f236a4b6a1be.mspx

If you have followed the above document, and are still unsucessful in removing your last Exchange 5.5 server you may need to manually remove it, but first you should ensure you have replicas of your Public folders, Schedule+, Free Busy, Organization Forms, and you have moved your connectors. Then follow the steps outlined in the following Microsoft KB:
    http://support.microsoft.com/?id=259158

    Regards

    Hi Pat,

I was just looking at the response I gave you and relised you should also follow the below MS KB article to remove your Exchange 5.5 server from AD, which will also remove this server from your Exchange Org (ie Administrative Group)
